Manufacturers and retailers selling packaged commodities without displaying the relevant details in 40% of the total area of the package will come under the lens of the Legal Metrology Department. The department will initiate prosecution steps against the violators soon.

The deadline allotted to the manufacturers to display the product details in 40% of the total area of the package had actually ended in July, 2016. However, the department found that many manufacturers had not complied with the guidelines even one year after the amendment to the relevant rules came into force.

The details to be given include the name and address of the manufacturer/packager/importer; net quantity of product; manufacturing date of the commodity; retail price of the commodity; dimensions of the commodity, if relevant; and consumer care contacts.
